Strengths: good image quality, its a baby dslr..

Weakness: battery charging in camera, big and heavy..

well, i finally bought the sony r1, after along wait for the price to drop, and read all reviews on it..i got it for 565$. what i like about r1: build quality, good zeiss lens, 24mm wide angle, iso change on cam just a botton..great colors balance, low noise and high iso, big cmos sensor, use both pro stick and cf card, long battery life , displays batt life in mins, useable high iso at 400, top...

could be better

Strengths: pic quality, variable angle lcd, lens quality, full manual control

Weakness: lcd size, low zoom, ease of use, heavy, cant record movies

awesome pic quality...if you can use it..its very hard to learn to use this camera effectively..i am not a beginner in digital cameras as i have a panasonic dmc-fz50 a konica minolta dimage z6 a nikon coolpix s6 and a couple more because i love photography and all digital toys and this is no exception but it would have been nice if the lcd was 2.5" or even 3" and a bit easier to use and higher...

Great Camera under $1,000

Strengths: 10M pics, very low noise, color, ease of use, Sony's topnotch build quality, support of compact flash memory

Weakness: Weight can be an issue for long trips and small hands.

Love everything about the camera. As this is my 3rd Sony camera I had no trouble coming up to speed. Menu structure is very intuitive. In a Florida trip I took over 400 combined day/night shots with a 4gb Hitachi microdrive. When I finally viewed the photos on my computer I was amazed with the level of details. It's like I am suddenly back in Disneyworld again! People who say you don't need more...

Sony Cybershot DSC-R1

Strengths: Fantastic image quality. Great features. Multiple memory options. Good control setup.

Weakness: Heavy relative to most digital cameras. No image stabilization.

I've used this camera to shoot concert publicity photos indoors and some family photos outdoors. It's beats my Sony DSC-717 hands down. Very little grain wthout flash at high (400-800) speeds under stage lighting conditions. Most controls use a separate button rather than having to navigate threw a slew of menus. Very little learning curve from the 717. At 2+ lbs it's relatively heavy but not...

Sony R1

Strengths: Great image quality Easy to use interface Getting cheaper by the minute (I only paid $750 for mine) Great battery life

Weakness: Slow low light autofocusing Best EVF I've seen, but still sucks compared to optical SLR viewfinders

I bought this camera after much deliberation. I consider myself a "prosumer" who likes to take high quality pictures, but who doesn't want the hassle and expense of paying $2000 for a lens and body to match the quality found in the Sony R1. I also do not want to deal with multiple lenses and the problems they bring as you will eventually get dust on the sensor when you switch out lenses with a...

Awesome digital camera

Strengths: Image quality, overall build, lens, pop-up LCD screen

Weakness: slow to auto-focus in low light conditions - can be compensated for...

This is my 7th digital camera since 1995 and is the best by far. It is admittedly on the heavy side, but that makes up for the lack of image stabilization. (With only a 5x1 zoom, if you pay attention you really don't miss IS). The lens is superb and takes a back seat to only the most expensive SLR lens on the market...and even then not by much. The battery capacity is awesome. I purchased two...

Awesome Camera

Strengths: Quality, Name, Clarity, Ease of use, Top mounted LCD, compatibility with memory stick and flash card!!

Weakness: Bulky, Pricy

This is an awesome camera. This is my first digital camera. I had a Minolta 7000i camera. That used to be the best in the market 15 years ago. Now this one seems to be the best, as far as I have researched!. Although this is a bit pricey, it takes excellent, breathtaking pictures even in the Non-Raw mode. Raw-mode is even better!!. With 4Gb flash card, I can't wait to go on a trip to utilize this...

No Regrets So Far

Strengths: Great image quality, easy to use, good instructions

Disclaimer: I just started using this camera. So far, I am very satisfied with my purchase. Great things about this camera: 1. 10.3MP is hard to get under $1000. And if you need to fit more images on your recording medium or not going to print them in large size, you can the image size switch between 1MP to 10MP. 2. Carl Zeiss lens is awesome, as usual. It also allows you to zoom in and zoom out....

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1

Strengths: very good image quality, large sensor, little noise/artifacts, USB 2.0 (for the large raw files), lots of features, intuitive camera chip for exposures, Good value,Extra wide angle, fast Zeiss lens!

Weakness: zoom range is somewhat limited, raw file size, heavier than normal, no image stabilization. EVF can be difficult to use in low light (so try using the brighter but less sharp LCD). Pricey prosumer.

This is a very good camera and, although pricey for a fixed lens digital the extra large sensor - the biggest for any DSLR and non-SLR D - provides little noise and artifacts in the image even at high ISO settings. The sensor and quality German lens (and fast too!) is probably worth more than the camera itself. On main problem is the EVF is difficult to use in low light but I found that the LCD...

Sony Cybershot DSC-R1

Strengths: This is an awesome camera and so easy to use.

Weakness: Found none

I have been checking into all brands of digital cameras and I found this one to be the best in its field. It is easy to use and a huge step above just the point and shoot. The picture quality is awesome.

Sony Cybershot DSC R1

The Sony Cybershot R1 is far from your average digital camera. It is a definite trendsetter, a digital camera that has noticeably raised the bar another notch for the competition. Not only does the camera radiate quality, it shows it in every aspect and truly deserves all praise.

DCRP Review: Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1 finds itself in a difficult position: not only is it more expensive than most fixed-lens cameras, but it also costs more than most digital SLR kits. While the R1 has the best photo quality of any fixed-lens camera (by far), the tough competition from digital SLRs makes deciding between the R1 and a D-SLR difficult.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-R1

The Sony DSC-R1 stakes out a unique territory in the digital camera arena, offering a sensor nearly as large as those of most digital SLRs and an absolutely superb lens in a convenient all-in-one package. You can buy a digital SLR kit (including lens) for less, but our lens tests reveal that you'd have to spend two or three times as much to get a lens of equal quality on that same budget d-SLR....

Bridge cameras look like SLRs but use a fixed lens and electronic viewfinder. They are popular with many amateurs, but are also often criticized for the small size of their sensors, which makes it hard to control depth of field and results in noise at high sensitivity settings. Sony is the first manufacturer to go beyond those limitations with their R1. Should you rush out to buy one?
